What is the first step?

If you are interested in getting more information or setting up an appointment, please contact us at Inquiries@behavioralwellnessnyc.com or (646) 694-1438. You can then schedule a brief, free and confidential phone consultation, in order to determine if and who in the practice might be a good fit, and to answer any questions you might have about our services. At that time, you can also set up the initial 90-minute consultation session.

Prior to beginning treatment, we conduct initial consultation sessions, the aim of which is to assess the difficulties leading clients to seek treatment, as well as goals they would like to reach in therapy. During this session, we ask specific questions about the nature and history of clients' difficulties, and about personal background information relevant to these difficulties. The aim of this type of session is to specify and define what would be addressed in therapy and to formulate initial treatment recommendations. This session also allows for clients to ask questions about our approach and practice.

How often do we meet?

Most clients meet for therapy weekly for 45 minutes. However, therapy can be adapted to meet each individual’s needs. At the initial consultation session, we will discuss goals for treatment and collaboratively determine a plan for the frequency of sessions.

How long does treatment last?

We provide evidenced-based therapy which is designed to be short-term and goal-focused. However, the actual length of treatment varies for each client and for each presenting difficulty. The expected length of treatment can be discussed during or shortly after the initial consultation session, when clients' difficulties and needs are discussed in more detail and recommendations for treatment are made. If you would like treatment to be more time-limited and tailored to achieving specific goals, we can collaboratively identify realistic objectives and discuss an approximate time line by which goals may be achieved. Treatment can also last longer, if you would like to focus more intensively on any of the difficulties you are having.

Are sessions confidential?

All sessions and information about clients are confidential, as per New York state law. Exceptions are if there is indication/suspicion that a child, elder or disabled person is being abused, and/or if a client presents a risk of harm to him/herself or another person that requires confidentiality be broken in order to ensure safety.

What are your fees?

For current fees please contact us at Inquiries@behavioralwellnessnyc.com or (646) 694-1438.

Do you accept insurance?

We do not accept insurance. However, most clients receive some out of network reimbursement for our services. We provide receipts of payment each month with all the information needed to submit to your insurance company.

How do I determine if insurance will reimburse me for therapy?

Insurance reimbursement rates vary widely based on the specific plan.  Please call your insurance company and inquire about out-of-network mental health benefits. Specifically, we recommend that you ask your insurance company what percentage they reimburse for 45-minute, weekly therapy sessions with a licensed psychologist; the CPT code for 45-minute sessions is 90834, and our billing zip code is 10001. We recommend that you also ask your insurance company if there is a deductible you have to meet before receiving reimbursement, if there is any preauthorization required, and if there is a limit to the annual number of sessions or to the number of sessions per week for which they will provide reimbursement.

What form of payment do you accept?

Payment is expected at the time of service. Most clients complete a credit card authorization form and their credit card is processed for each session attended. We also accept payment in the form of cash or check at the time of each session.

What is the rescheduling and cancellation policy?

At least 24-hour notification is required to reschedule or cancel appointments. Without this notification, you will be expected to pay for the full session.
